In this section we will try and post as much details on any of the men who were originally buried or had there names inscribed on any graves that were originally in the Wesleyan Methodist cemetery in Cheetham hill. The Cemetery opened in October 1815 and closed in July 1968 with well over 20,000 interments. In 2003, the bodies and stones were removed to a mass grave at St Peter's road cemetery, Bury. Today, the old Wesleyan cemetery site is now a car park for a large Tesco store. As far as i am aware only the service men's remains were removed and reburied in Southern cemetery, Manchester. This cemetery was on the North-Western edge of the city, near the junction of Bury Old road and Middleton road, on the site of an old chapel on Thomas Street, Cheetham Hill, Manchester. It covers an area of around three acres and contains the grave of ten soldiers, one airman and one sailor from the United kingdom armed forces.
Many of these CWGC graves have family members inscribed on them which is very unusual. The inscriptions are taken from the original gravestones in the Cheetham hill cemetery.
